2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2022 Subaru Crosstrek

Sometimes when you go from one model year vehicle to another you can't notice all that much different. But if you're comparing the 2019 to the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek that couldn't be further from the truth.

From what's under the hood to the technological features inside the car, Subaru has changed just about everything. There are even a few differences in the exterior appearance of the two cars.

It's a lot to cover, so if you haven't checked in on the Crosstrek in a while, this guide will break down everything you need to know.

The New Engine Option

One of the biggest changes from the 2019 to the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is the introduction of a new engine option. While the 2.0L engine that produces 152 horsepower is still standard and the hybrid option still uses the same powertrain, they've introduced a larger, more powerful 2.5L engine.

That engine produces 182 horsepower, and this has a pretty significant impact on performance. It takes the 0 to 60 time from 9.2 seconds down to 7.5 seconds. That's faster than the hybrid model too, although that can beat the standard 2.0L engine by going 0 to 60 in 8.3 seconds.

A new engine option is a pretty big change under the hood, but it's just the start of what Subaru has changed from the 2019 Crosstrek to the 2022 version.

The New Trim Level

Not only has Subaru introduced a new engine option to the mix, but there's also a whole new trim level that wasn't available with the 2019 Crosstrek.

That trim level is the Subaru Sport, which slots between the Premium and Limited trim levels. It comes with everything the Premium trim level has, but it's also the first trim level that gives you the 2.5L engine.

But that's not the only difference. You also get larger 17-inch wheels, yellow stitched upholstery, carbon fiber trim, and advanced driving modes you can cycle through for different road conditions.

It's a great option between the Premium and Limited trim levels, and it comes with quite a few features we're sure you'll love.

New Standard Features

Every year Subaru adds more features to what comes standard, and the Crosstrek follows this trend. While you might be able to find some of these features in the 2019 Crosstrek, they didn't come in every 2019 Crosstrek.

For the 2022 models all these things are now completely standard and you can't find a 2022 Crosstrek without them.

New safety features include doors that automatically lock once the vehicle reaches 13 miles per hour and a collision detection system that automatically unlocks the doors if you get into an accident.

For performance upgrades, there's the new CVT transmission that improves gear shifting, start and stop technology that improves fuel economy, and Subaru's intelligent drive selectable driving modes that optimize the all-wheel-drive system to whatever the road conditions are.

Finally, on the comfort side of things, the automatic climate control system now comes standard, so you don't have to constantly change the AC or heat knob to keep your car at the optimal temperature.

New Optional Features

While more and more features now come standard with the 2022 Crosstrek, there are also available technologies that you just couldn't get with the 2019 Crosstrek.

You'll still have to upgrade to these features, but they're options you couldn't get on the older model. You can now upgrade to a six-way power adjustable driver's seat for even more control of where you sit, and you can get rear USB charging ports to go with the ones in the front.

LED fog lamps are now an option, and you can get a keyless entry system with a push start. These features aren't in every 2022 Subaru Crosstrek, but the option is there if you want them.

A New Look SUV

Not only are there a ton of great new options inside and under the hood of the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek, but Subaru has changed a few things on the exterior appearance of this crossover SUB too.

They completely redesigned the front bumper and grille, giving the car a sportier and more aggressive appearance.

Inside the car, a lot of it looks the same, but one thing that is a bit different is that Subaru moved the location of the front USB charging ports. They still come standard with every model, but you won't find them in the front of the center console anymore.

Now the ports are in the bin at the bottom of the center stack. It might not seem like a big change, but it leads to a better-looking front console and it's a bit more functional when it comes to finding a place to store your smart device when you plug it in.

Sticking With What Works

While there are a lot of things new with the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek, they also didn't completely redesign it from the 2019 model. That's because the 2019 Crosstrek is still a great, reliable, and well-thought-out vehicle.

Subaru isn't looking to change for the sake of change, and there's a lot with the 2019 Crosstrek that works. Most of the interior is identical between the model years, and outside of the front bumper and grille, that's the same too.

So, when you compare the 2019 Crosstrek to the 2022 model it still feels like the same car, and that's a good thing. Both model years are great cars, Subaru is just looking to keep improving year after year.
