2022 Subaru Crosstrek vs. 2022 Subaru Outback

If you are looking for a capable crossover that is going to be reliable for you, look no further than some Subaru options. The Subaru Crosstrek is a subcompact SUV that offers you plenty of great features. The Subaru Outback is a wagon, but it offers you a similar capability and functionality to that of an SUV.

How do these two options compare? Below we are going to compare these two Subaru vehicles so that you can determine which is the better fit for your lifestyle.

Performance and Engine Options

First, let's take a look at the performance and engine options available on these two SUVs. Both have two engine options for you so that you can get the performance you are looking for.

The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek can be found with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder base engine. This engine produces 152-horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but there is an available continuously variable automatic transmission. Your second engine option is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that gives you 182-horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission. Both engines give you standard all-wheel drive to take on tough terrain.

In the 2022 Crosstrek, you have the capability to tow up to 1,500 pounds. You also have some off-road capabilities like the all-wheel drive, and the 8.7 inches of ground clearance.

You can find two engine options in the Subaru Outback. The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine produces 182-horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. Your second engine option is a turbocharged one. It is a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 260-horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. You get a continuously variable automatic transmission with both engines, as well as all-wheel-drive with both engines.

The Outback also offers you up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity when this vehicle is properly equipped. You also get some off-road features and capabilities with about 9.5 inches of ground clearance and a Subaru X-mode traction control system.

Exterior

The Subaru Crosstrek is a smaller SUV option. It is small and city-friendly with a length of 14.7 feet long. The weight of this vehicle ranges from 3,117 to 3,298 pounds. This vehicle also offers you features like fog lights, multi-reflector halogen headlights, all season tires, 17-inch alloy wheels, and raised roof rails.

The Subaru Outback is a slightly bigger vehicle. The Outback is 15.9 feet long, and it ranges from 3,637 to 3,931 pounds. This vehicle also offers you features like 17-inch alloy wheels, all-season tires, LED steering responsive headlights, fog lights, folding side mirrors, and raised roof rails.

Interior and Technology

The Subaru Crosstrek is a subcompact SUV with seating for five people. You get standard cloth upholstery, but there is leather upholstery and heated front seats available. When it comes to cargo space in the Crosstrek, you can get 20.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, and when you fold down those rear seats, you can get up to 55.3 cubic feet of cargo space.

In terms of technology, the Crosstrek gives you an infotainment system with a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and remote keyless entry. Additional available features included a Wi-Fi hotspot, a navigation system, a larger 8-inch touchscreen, and more USB ports.

The Subaru Outback also has seating for five people with standard cloth upholstery. There are available interior features like heated seats, ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, and a heated steering wheel. The Outback is a bigger vehicle, so it does offer you a bit more cargo space. This vehicle gives you 32.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and up to 75.7 cubic feet with those rear seats folded down.

Standard technology features on the 2022 Outback include two 7-inch touchscreens, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD radio, and USB ports. Available technology includes an 11.6-inch touchscreen, a navigation system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a premium audio system.

Both of these vehicles have nice interiors with good technology. The Outback is a bigger vehicle with more cargo space, and it does have larger touchscreen infotainment systems. Otherwise, these vehicles offer you similar interiors.

Safety

In terms of safety technology, the Subaru Crosstrek comes standard with a rearview camera, but there are other safety technologies available for upgrade. These available safety features include forward automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and a rear seat alert.

The Outback does offer you more safety technology standards. This vehicle gives you standard features like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, head-up display, automatic emergency braking, and a rear seat reminder. There are a few features that you have to upgrade to get like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a front-view camera system, and driver drowsiness monitoring.

Both of these vehicles do offer you some great safety technologies, and they are both built in a way that is safe for you. The Outback offers more standard safety technology, but on higher trim levels you can get many of those same features on the 2022 Crosstrek.

As you can see, these vehicles both have a lot to offer you. The one you choose for yourself will likely depend a lot on the size and capability you want from your vehicle. The Subaru Outback is the bigger vehicle with more cargo space and more towing capability. This vehicle is more versatile for carrying cargo and it is a more spacious vehicle. The Crosstrek is a subcompact vehicle. It still offers you good cargo and passenger space for its size, but you have less than the Outback. However, this makes the Crosstrek a more city-friendly vehicle, which can be an advantage for many.

Both vehicles are great options with capable performance, plenty of technology, and all-wheel drive. If you have questions about either one of these vehicles or you would like to test drive one, reach out to us at Granite Subaru.
