2018 Subaru Legacy

The Subaru Legacy is a handsome sedan that is a joy to drive. It has gone under the radar since Subaru has best been known for its off-roading vehicles, but it has quietly made a name for itself for its high quality and exceptional value. The 2018 Legacy made several "best of" lists for its affordability, quality, and overall value. This stylish model is roomy, comfortable, safe, and fun to drive. It has a lot to offer, and it does it all for an affordable price.

If you are shopping for previously owned vehicles, you should put the 2018 Subaru Legacy at the top of your list to consider. The Legacy is known for its longevity, and it will give you many more years of dependable service. You can buy with confidence, knowing that you are getting an attractive vehicle that will perform dependably for the long haul.

Take a closer look at all that the 2018 Subaru Legacy has to offer:

 Exterior Styling and Features

The 2018 Subaru Legacy has conservative styling that will present well in any situation, whether you are picking up business clients or meeting up for a first date. This beautiful sedan has an elegant, understated aesthetic. It doesn't need to distract with a lot of flashy details. It has a quiet confidence that speaks for itself.

Well-placed accents are seen throughout the body. The front end features a trapezoidal grille flanked in chrome, and a chrome bar crosses the center. Adaptive headlights sit over front fog lamps. The headlights are auto-leveling, and they turn on automatically. Both headlights and taillights are LED. The front and rear fascia and the headlights were all redesigned with the 2018 model to give the Legacy a slightly sportier look.

The front and rear bumpers are body-colored, as are the door handles and side mirrors. The windows are trimmed in chrome.

The 2018 Legacy sits on 18-inch aluminum alloy gray wheels with all-season tires. Some other exterior features include heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators, variable intermittent wipers, a sun visor strip, light tinted glass, and a sunroof with sunshade.

Interior Styling

With the 2018 model, the Subaru Legacy got a bit of a refresh, and that resulted in some big changes to the interior. You'll find a beautiful interior on the Legacy, with a lot of chrome accents and stylish details. You'll feel confident having anyone as a passenger, knowing that the Legacy will impress.

High-quality cloth upholstery is included with the base model of the 2018 Legacy, but you'll find leather and leather-trimmed upholstery on the higher trim levels. The base trim level comes with heated bucket front seats, designed with comfort in mind. The driver's seat is power adjustable 10 ways, including lumbar support, and the passenger's seat is adjustable four ways. The rear seat has a 60/40 split, and it offers plenty of passenger space for a comfortable ride. Even though the Legacy is a mid-size sedan, it has the roominess of a full-size sedan. Passengers in the front and back will find they have plenty of room to get comfortable.

The center console is neatly ordered for easy access to controls and information, and there is a clever design that creates plenty of storage right at the tip of your fingers.

Power and Performance

The 2018 Legacy delivers great performance for a sedan. You aren't going to run races on the weekend, but you are going to enjoy your ride to work. You'll also enjoy the fuel efficiency the sedan gets, helping you to save significantly at the pump.

The base model Legacy comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 175 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission that provides smooth handling.

A more powerful engine option was offered on the upper trim level for the 2018 Legacy: a larger, 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine that put out 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. The larger engine is also paired to the CVT, giving you nimble handling to match the increased power.

While shopping for the Legacy, you will have to look for the higher trim levels to enjoy this more powerful drivetrain.

Fuel efficiency for the base model engine was 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. For the larger engine, fuel efficiency was 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. You'll fill up a little more frequently with the larger engine, but the increased power may be worth it to those who want it. Otherwise, you can enjoy comfortable performance with great fuel savings on the base model.

Technology and Convenience Features

These days, buyers look for so much more in their vehicles than comfort and good performance. They want vehicles that offer all the bells and whistles - and they want it all for an affordable price. We all know that we can have the best, so long as we are willing to pay for it. Automakers are now trying to give us more without making us pay luxury prices.

The 2018 Subaru Legacy comes with a lot of the most popular technology that buyers love. The infotainment system is displayed on a 6.5-inch touchscreen, and it includes a four-speaker sound system, Bluetooth streaming, a USB port for charging and streaming devices, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The 2018 model updates included a new CPU on the touchscreen, resulting in faster startup and operating speeds with no lag. Higher trim levels come with a larger touchscreen, a premium sound system, and dual USB ports.

Standard convenience features include remote keyless entry, remote trunk release, push button start, a garage door transmitter, voice-activated dual-zone climate control, a day-night auto-dimming rearview mirror, fade-to-off interior lighting, cargo area concealed storage, and two 12V power outlets.

As you move up the trim levels on the Legacy, more features are available. By shopping previously owned models, you get the chance to get more of these features without having to pay more. You enjoy greater value with more features for less money.

Safety Features

The 2018 Subaru Legacy scores high on safety thanks to its superior design and its exceptional safety features.

Some standard safety features on the 2018 Legacy include an engine immobilizer, electronic stability control, driveline traction control, blind spot monitoring, rear collision warning, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, high beam assistance, adaptive cruise control, side impact beams, and a backup camera.

Additional safety features are added on higher trim levels.

The 2018 Subaru Legacy scored "Good" across the board on tests with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it scored 5 stars on all tests with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Available Trim Levels

The 2018 Subaru Legacy came in five trim levels, giving buyers a great deal of flexibility to ensure that they got the features they wanted. With each trim level, additional features were added, giving drivers more to enjoy.

  • 2.5i - This is the base model trim. The i in the name stands for the inline four engine that comes standard on the Legacy, as well as with the next three trim levels bearing the same initial. The base model comes with many of the features mentioned here, including cloth upholstery, the infotainment system with the 6.5-inch touchscreen and four-speaker sound system, and the backup camera.
  • 2.5i Premium - With this trim level, features like dual USB ports, an 8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, a six-speaker audio system, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel were added to the Legacy.
  • 2.5i Sport - This trim level adds push button start and a lot of safety features, like fog lights, lane change assistance, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert.
  • 2.5i Limited - The upper trim for the inline 4 engine adds on leather-trimmed upholstery, a premium sound system, and power-adjustable front seats.
  • 3.6R Limited - The highest trim level with the 3.6-liter engine has all the same features as the other Limited trim. The difference is the engine choice, which offers substantially more power.

Of course, when you are shopping for previously owned models, you won't have the choice of upgrading to a higher trim level. You will have to be on the lookout for these trims and the addition of any options packages to get the configuration you want.
