2020 Subaru Ascent

Subaru is well-known for vehicles that can take you off your city streets and highways and onto new trails, giving you the power and the flexibility to explore new spaces and enjoy fresh adventures. But many of Subaru's vehicles are made for smaller families and couples. With the Subaru Ascent, you can enjoy all the great features that Subaru offers and get comfortable seating room for up to eight people - making it a great choice for larger families who want to explore together.Â
The Subaru Ascent is built to last, and shopping for the 2020 model ensures that you will get a dependable vehicle for many years to come, but you'll save significantly over new model prices. Granite Subaru sells this and other Subaru Ascent models, giving you more options to find the perfect vehicle for your needs and on your budget. Here's a closer look at what the 2020 Subaru Ascent has to offer:Â
 Exterior Styling
The trouble with a lot of three-row vehicles is that because they have to be so large to provide ample space for additional passengers, they end up being boxy and unwieldy. They look more utilitarian than stylish, and they can be rather uninspiring. The 2020 Subaru Ascent breaks this mold, offering a stylish profile without compromising the interior space or comfort.Â
The 2020 Subaru Ascent has a smooth, sleek silhouette similar to its smaller counterparts. The front end features the subtly shaped hexagonal grille with a chrome surround and crossbars, large headlights that are gently tailored and flank the sides, and chrome accents across the air intakes and strategically placed throughout the profile. Other profile features include black side mirrors, black wheel flares and borders on the side panels, black roof rails, and a body colored rear spoiler. The overall effect is one that is commanding yet stylish.Â
Interior Space and Styling
The 2020 Subaru Ascent is just as attractive on the inside as it is the outside, and it offers plenty of space to make all passengers comfortable on even the longest drives.Â
The interior has high quality materials with chrome accents throughout. The design of the front cabin is chosen for both practicality and style. The center console features the infotainment display, and control knobs are placed directly under it, while air vents flank it vertically. An additional driver display sits on the dash just above the infotainment display, covered by a hood to incorporate it into the dash.Â
Cloth upholstery covers ergonomic seating throughout the cabin. When purchased new, the Ascent could be configured to seat seven or eight people across three rows. Now, shopping for the 2020 Ascent, you would need to look for models that were previously configured the way you want them. Ascents configured for seven seats have captain's chairs in the second row, while models configured for eight seats have a bench seat in the second row. Wide door openings, a sliding second row, and ample interior space ensure that everyone is comfortable and that it is easy for people to get in and out of the vehicle. Overall, the 2020 Ascent has passenger volume of 153.5 cubic feet, and it has a maximum cargo volume of 86.5 cubic feet.Â
On higher trim levels for the Ascent, leather upholstery is available, as are heated and ventilated seats and front seats that have more points of adjustment.Â
Power and Performance
Subaru is known for creating vehicles that are strong, capable, and reliable, and the 2020 Ascent is no exception. The Ascent is equipped with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission for smooth handling. All-wheel drive is standard, ensuring that you have the power you need to get over any kind of terrain.Â
Several other features of the 2020 Ascent enhance its performance. It has software-controlled traction control and hill descent control. It has 8.7 inches of ground clearance, helping it to amble over rocky terrain more easily. Upper trim levels also come with large, 20-inch wheels, but the base model has 18-inch silver finish alloy wheels.
Fuel economy on the 2020 Ascent is rated at 26 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. When the Ascent is equipped with larger wheels, the fuel economy takes a slight hit, dropping to 20 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.Â
Maximum towing capacity on the 2020 Ascent is 5,000. Trailer stability assist helps to minimize sway for any trailers attached to the Ascent.Â
Comfort and Convenience Features
Not only does the Subaru Ascent offer comfortable seating and an attractive cabin, but it has plenty of comfort and convenience features that make the drive even better for everyone.Â
The infotainment system is displayed on a 6.5-inch touchscreen that is mounted ideally in the center console. The infotainment system includes a six-speaker audio system, four USB ports placed throughout the cabin for charging and streaming devices, Bluetooth streaming capability, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The infotainment system gets an upgrade on higher trim levels, with features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a wi-fi hotspot, a 14-speaker premium audio system, and a navigation system.Â
Additional interior features include tri-zone automatic climate control, numerous storage compartments throughout the cabin, and a whopping 19 cupholders - enough for every passenger in the cabin and then some. Of course, extra luxury features are available as you move up the trim levels, including heated and ventilated seats.Â
Safety Features
When you're transporting more people, safety becomes an even bigger consideration for your vehicle. The 2020 Subaru Ascent is built with safety in mind.Â
The 2020 Ascent earned a "Good" safety rating on all crash testing from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. One test, for Front Crash Prevention, earned a "Superior" rating. It also named the Ascent a Top Safety Pick. Meanwhile, the 2020 Ascent earned five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for its overall rating, as well as for Frontal Crash testing and Side Crash testing. It earned four stars for Rollover testing.Â
The 2020 Subaru Ascent is packed with driver assistance and safety features. Standard equipment includes a sharp rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, sway warning, and adaptive cruise control. As part of its forward collision assistance features, the Ascent also has pre-collision throttle management.Â
The Ascent also has a heads-up display that puts pertinent driving information right on the windshield where it is easiest to see while driving. It also has a rear-seat alert to remind you to check the back rows before leaving the vehicle - just in case any children or pets are present.Â
Additional safety features are available as you move up the trim levels, including reverse automatic emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, automatic high beams, adaptive headlights, and lane change assistance. A front-view camera and a rearview camera mirror are also available, as are rain-sensing windshield wipers.Â
Trim Levels
Four trim levels were available on the 2020 Subaru Ascent, including the base model. When you are shopping for previously owned models, you have the luxury of choosing from one of the higher trim levels and enjoying more great features for a fraction of the price you would have paid if you bought new.Â
The three other trim levels on the 2020 Ascent are the Premium, Limited, and Touring.Â
With the Premium trim level, the Ascent gained features like 18-inch gray machined alloy wheels (same size as the base, but a different finish) and body-color side mirrors (instead of black). Interior upgrades included stain-resistant cloth for the seating, heated front seats, eight points of adjustment for the driver's seat (instead of six), a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and climate controls in the second row. The entertainment system got a larger 8.0-inch display screen and a wi-fi hotspot. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert were added to the list of safety features.Â
The Limited trim level gave drivers 20-inch dark gray alloy wheels, LED steering responsive headlights, LED fog lights, automatic high beams, and side mirrors with integrated turn signals. Interior upgrades included leather-trimmed upholstery, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats, a second-row sunshade, power liftgate, keyless entry, push button start, and dual USB ports for all three rows. Reverse automatic emergency braking was added to the list of safety features.
Finally, the top-tier Touring trim level added exterior features like satin chrome power-folding side mirrors, chrome door handles, and a panoramic moonroof. The interior featured woodgrain trim, heated and ventilated seats, a 120-volt power outlet, and a 180-degree front-view mirror. The infotainment system was upgraded with a navigation system and a premium, 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.Â
