2023 Subaru Impreza Sport

The Subaru Impreza has become a reliable fan favorite, spanning three decades and five generations of impressive sales. The compact sedan offers modest but attractive styling, dependable performance, a comfortable and stylish interior, and plenty of tech features that make driving more enjoyable. The Impreza has also been a consistently safe vehicle, making it ideal for all kinds of drivers, including first-time drivers and those with families.

Typically, the Impreza would be due for a new generation with the 2023 model, based on Subaru's history. However, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the usual production cycle, and the next generation of the Impreza is not due until at least 2024. Though the 2023 model won't present an entirely new design scheme, it will offer plenty of upgrades that should excite buyers. The Impreza will also continue on its legacy of exceptional quality, superior performance, and longevity.

The 2023 Subaru Impreza offers four trim levels, and three are offered in both a sedan and hatchback configuration. However, the Sport trim is attracting a lot of attention for its upgraded performance and other features. Here's what buyers will find in the 2023 Subaru Impreza Sport trim:

Exterior Styling

The 2023 Subaru Impreza has a sleek design that elevates it above its competitors in its budget- and family-friendly category. The Impreza jumps forward in an aerodynamic design, with its front end seeming to come to a point, accented by a modest grille with a silver bar running through the middle. The headlights have a unique design that isn't your standard swoop toward the wheels. The inner corner starts thin, and about halfway through the design, it bulges out before slimming back again toward the wheels. It's an interesting design that you won't find on other models.

The body features numerous grooves and accents for visual appeal, making the profile more interesting than so many sedans with plain panels. The profile rises then falls at the rear, following the aerodynamic design that makes the Impreza look like it's in action.

The rear design depends on whether you opt for the sedan or hatchback, both of which are available on the Sport trim level. The hatchback features a small spoiler over the rear window, while the sedan has the spoiler sitting above the trunk. Hexagonal tail lights stretch toward the wheels, and the bumper seems carved out of the back, with a significant set back.

Exterior colors available on the Sport trim are Crystal Black Silica, Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Magnetite Gray Metallic, Ocean Blue Pearl, Lithium Red Pearl, and Sapphire Blue Pearl. Every color results in a beautiful look for the 2023 Subaru Impreza.

Other exterior features unique to the Sport trim include body-colored door handles, side rocker spoilers, and folding side mirrors (which also include integrated turn signals). The Sport rides on 18-inch black aluminum-alloy wheels with a machine finish and all-season tires. There are roof crossbar mounting points, a single exhaust outlet with a stainless tip, and multi-reflector halogen headlights. You get exterior features that give the Sport a unique look and help it perform better.

Interior Styling

The interior of the 2023 Subaru Impreza is impeccably styled, with all the details in just the right place, without being overly flashy. The center console flows up to a large infotainment screen that sits in the middle of the tailored dash and is flanked by vertical air vents. Accent lines through the dash and door trim give a sense of motion throughout the cabin, drawing your eye from one element to the next.

Bucket seating creates a more structured look while also creating a comfortable, ergonomic ride. Though the rear seat is a bench, the two side seats look just like the front bucket seats, though they are joined in the middle. The rear seat has a 60/40 split in the Sport trim level, and the front seats are manually adjustable.

The Sport trim features a black interior with stylish red accent stitching. The upholstery is sport cloth to better manage spills and stains, and the steering wheel and shifting handle are wrapped in leather. Aluminum alloy pedal covers contribute to the sporty design on the interior. The infotainment center on the Sport trim is full color, and it is joined by an instrument cluster with a speedometer and tachometer.

The interior on the Subaru Impreza is well-designed, and the interior on the Sport trim is both comfortable and stylish.

Power and Performance

All four trim levels of the 2023 Subaru Impreza come with the same engine: A 2.0-liter four-cylinder Subaru BOXER engine that puts out 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. A continuously variable transmission is standard, but a five-speed manual transmission is also available.

Though the Sport trim level on the 2023 Impreza doesn't have a special engine, it does include several performance upgrades to improve the driving experience. The Sport comes with symmetrical all-wheel drive, as well as electric power assisted steering. Active Torque Vectoring provides greater control during driving. It helps to reduce understeer and helps the vehicle to take tight corners more easily.

The Sport trim also comes with vehicle dynamics control, Subaru Intelligent Drive, a traction control system, and four-wheel independent suspension. For improved control and safety, the Sport trim also comes with four-wheel disc brakes, brake assistance, and a brake override system.

Even with the enhanced performance on the Sport trim, it enjoys superior fuel economy. The Sport trim gets an estimated 27 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.

Comfort and Convenience Features

Subaru is known for loading up its vehicle with advanced amenities and technology. While the base model 2023 Subaru Impreza offers plenty of great features, the Sport trim offers a few extras.

Some of the comfort and convenience features that come with the Subaru Impreza Sport include heated front seats, push button start, keyless access with PIN code, power windows and side mirrors, and a lockable glove box. The three-spoke steering wheel has integrated controls for easy access, and the steering column has manually adjustable tilt and telescope. Controls include electronic cruise control and auto on-off headlights.

The infotainment system is displayed on an 8.0-inch screen, and sound comes through six speakers. A premium audio system is available as an option. The system includes 4G LTE wi-fi capability, dual front USB ports, and dual rear USB ports.

Other interior amenities include a single bottle holder in each door panel, dual cup holders in the center console, a center console with an armrest lid, a manually adjustable CFC-free air conditioning system, sun visors with concealed vanity mirrors, and transmission paddle shifters. The hatchback version also comes with grocery bag hooks, tie-down hooks, and a retractable and removable cargo area cover.

Safety Features

The 2023 Subaru Impreza was built for safety, and it comes with many of the advanced safety features for which Subaru has become known. The Sport trim level comes with even more of those features, given its status as a higher trim level.

Every model that is equipped with the continuously variable transmission, like the Subaru Impreza Sport trim, comes with Subaru's suite of EyeSight driver assistance technology. This package includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assistance, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision throttle management. It also includes a lead vehicle start alert, which lets a driver know when the car ahead of them starts to pull away, such as in traffic.

Many of the features that are included to help with performance also help with safety, such as the traction control, anti-lock braking system, and brake override system.

There is a standard backup camera, as well as daytime running lights, a tire pressure monitoring system, whiplash-reducing front seats that come with height- and tilt-adjustable head restraints, height-adjustable seatbelts for the front seat, rear seat head restraints, a LATCH system for child safety seats, and rear child safety door locks. There is an advanced frontal airbag system, as well as seat-mounted front seat side pelvis and torso airbags, side curtain airbags, and driver's knee airbags.

Finally, the Subaru Starlink safety and security system provides anti-theft protection. Subaru has considered every possibility when designing its safety features, both for the vehicle itself and for all its precious cargo.
