Looking for a midsize vehicle with good passenger capacity and plenty of cargo space? Want a reliable performance? Look no further than the Subaru Outback. The Subaru Outback is technically considered to be a wagon, but it compares to many compact SUVs. If you are looking into a compact SUV, you might want to consider the Subaru Outback as an alternative. This vehicle offers you even more cargo capacity than many compact SUVs and a better performance with features like standard all wheel drive.

Below, we are going to take a closer look at just one trim level of the 2023 Subaru Outback. We are going to look closer at the Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition. The Wilderness Edition is a more off-road performance oriented version of the Subaru Outback. Check out its features and capabilities below, and reach out to us at Granite Subaru with any questions you may have.

Performance and Engine Options

One advantage of the Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition is that it comes standard with the more powerful turbocharged engine. Your other Outback models have a 2.5-liter engine, but this has a turbocharged 2.4-liter. Check out this engine and its specs below.

  • Turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine - In the Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition, you have a standard turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that gives you 260-horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.

All Subaru Outback vehicles come standard with all wheel drive, and this engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. In the Wilderness trim, you can expect to get around 21 city and 26 highway miles per gallon in terms of fuel efficiency.

The Outback Wilderness trim also offers you better towing capacity than other Subaru Outback models. This vehicle gives you a maximum towing capacity of about 3,500 pounds with a 900 pound payload capacity.

You also have different driving modes in your Outback Wilderness. This vehicle has X-mode which offers you different drive modes like Snow/Dirt mode and Snow/Mud mode. X-mode also helps to monitor road conditions and adjust and alter your vehicle to make your driving safer. The Outback Wilderness also has a lifted suspension to give you up to 9.5 inches of ground clearance, a front skid plate, and all terrain tires. This allows you the ability to go off-road and on an adventure. It's tough to beat the Outback Wilderness for off-road capability. However, there are a lot of other great features found in this vehicle, besides just the performance features. Check out all the other features below.

Exterior

The 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition measures 191 inches in length, 73 to 75 inches in width, and up to 67 inches in height.

The exterior of this vehicle also has features like raised roof rails for adding extra cargo capacity. You also have 17-inch wheels and all-terrain tires to help you take on paths less traveled. As mentioned above, your ground clearance in the Wilderness trim is up to 9.5 inches, compared to the base Subaru Outback, which is just 8.7 inches.

Those technology features make for a great interior to your vehicle. You have features to keep you entertained and connected. Below, you can learn more about safety technology features to keep you safer on the road.

Safety

The 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition was tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and it received five out of five stars in both the frontal and side crash tests.

This vehicle offers you standard safety technology including a rearview camera, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, adaptive headlights, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear seat alert. Other features include blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, reverse collision warning, reverse automatic emergency braking, and driver attention monitoring. Below, you can take a closer look at some of these safety features in greater detail.

  • Forward collision warning - This safety feature will alert you of a potential front end collision. It looks for vehicles and pedestrians and alerts you of a potential front-end collision so that you can apply the brakes.
  • Adaptive cruise control - With adaptive cruise control, you can maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you on the highway. Your vehicle has a preset distance to maintain, and if you start closing that gap, this feature will automatically slow down your vehicle to maintain a safe distance.
  • Lane keep assist - This safety feature will monitor where you are in your lane. If it detects you drifting unintentionally out of your lane, it will make minor steering corrections to keep you safely in your lane.
  • Reverse automatic emergency braking - This safety feature will detect if there is a vehicle in your path when you are moving in reverse. If there is a vehicle, it will automatically apply the brakes to avoid the impact.

All of these safety features and more help to keep you and your loved ones safer on the road. They can alert you of potential collisions to help prevent the collision from occurring in the first place.

As you can see, there are a lot of amazing features to be found in the 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness. The Wilderness trim is a popular option because it offers you the more powerful engine, raised suspension and some great off-road capabilities. This vehicle also has a ton of technology and safety features standard. However, if you are less likely to go off-roading, you can choose one of the other trim levels on the 2023 Subaru Outback.
