2024 Subaru Crosstrek

The latest Subaru Crosstrek, now in its third generation, was introduced early in 2023 and continues to offer buyers an affordable and rugged design, being both fuel-efficient and more off-road capable than many dedicated small SUVs.

In true Subaru fashion, the Crosstrek exterior and interior design has evolved from the last generation and now brings thoughtful updates to the design, engineering safety and infotainment technologies.

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek sees the same engines from 2023 continue to do duty, and as expected of a Subaru vehicle, all-wheel drive is standard on all models. Trim levels remain unchanged for 2024 with the Crosstrek Base, Premium, Sport, and Limited, and the all-new 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness trim.

Exterior

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek shows off its new design, featuring a steep curvature over its profile. In the front, a new design applied to the grille's mesh features a boomerang-shaped accent over the front fog lights. 

Dramatically angled front headlights and the entire lower perimeter of the 2024 Crosstrek are fitted with black molding, which is particularly pronounced over the fenders. At the rear, boomerang-style tail lights add to the modern exterior design. The standard roof racks are rated for 700 pounds. 

Base and Premium models are fitted with 17x7.0-inch aluminum-alloy wheels in a dark gray finish wrapped in 225/60 R17 99H all-season tires, while Sport and Limited trims ride on 18-inch alloys with 225/55 R18 98V all-season tires.

Trim-dependent, heated side mirrors, roof rails, and a heated windshield are to be found.

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek boasts a minimum ground clearance of 8.7 inches, while the more off-road-oriented Wilderness trim has up to 9.3 inches of ground clearance.

The Crosstrek Wilderness's exterior features beefier chassis components, enhanced panels in the way of side cladding and a front skid plate for greater protection, along with more aggressive 225/60 R17 99T all-terrain tires fitted on 17-inch matte black wheels while a fitted sunroof is an option.

The Wilderness model sports additional orange accents on the roof racks on the front grill, along with the Crosstrek branding in orange on the enhanced side cladding.

Powertrain

The 2024 Crosstrek Base and Premium trims are fitted with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine making 152 horsepower @ 6000 rpm and torque of 145-foot pounds @ 4,000 rpm as standard, while the Sport, Limited and new Wilderness models come with a more powerful 2.5-liter flat-four engine making 182 horsepower and torque of 178-foot pounds.

Subaru no longer fits the Crosstrek with a manual transmission and now makes do with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). As mentioned before, all Crosstrek models are equipped with Subaru's standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

The Crosstrek Wilderness Differs from other trims with a lower final drive ratio of 4.11 compared to the standard 3.7 ratio. The CVT transmission in the Wilderness is also enhanced for better low-speed performance and sees the addition of a CVT cooler, allowing Wilderness models to tow up to 3,500 pounds vs. 1,500 pounds for the other Crosstrek trims.

Interior comfort and Infotainment

The new 2024 Crosstrek offers a notably improved cabin with redesigned seats for additional comfort and additional sound-deadening materials, keeping the cabin better insulated from outside noises.

The seats on most models are cloth-trimmed, while leather upholstery is optional. Top trims feature patterned seat inserts with silver stitching. Storage spaces include front doors with deep pockets for stashing water bottles and other travel items, as well as dual cup holders in the center console fitted with an armrest lid.

All trims are fitted with a dual-zone auto climate control system plus power front and rear windows with driver and front passenger auto-up/down, while higher trim levels are available with heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The 2024 Crosstrek Base trim comes well-equipped with a SUBARU STARLINK® Dual 7.0-inch Multimedia touch display screen, allied with a four-speaker sound system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All other trims see fitment of a SUBARU STARLINK® 11.6-inch Multimedia system with six speakers. Top trims also offer a wireless phone charger and a few additional features. 

The Crosstrek Wilderness trim adds synthetic leather upholstery, a power adjustable driver's seat and an optional premium Harman Kardon sound system.

The cargo area has 20 cubic feet of space on offer, with all seats in the up position expanding to 55 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. The cargo area of all trims is fitted with two grocery bag hooks and four tie-down hooks, plus a rear cargo tray.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The 2024 Crosstrek range features an impressive list of safety features such as a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake assist, a brake override system plus Subaru's advanced frontal airbag system, side curtain airbags, seat-mounted front seat side pelvis/torso airbags, drivers knee airbag and passenger seat cushion airbag.

Driver assistance features Subaru's EyeSight driver-assistance technology as standard. Key safety features include, amongst others, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automated emergency braking, high beam assist, vehicle dynamics control and adaptive cruise control.
