The Subaru Outback is well known in the US market as one of the more reliable vehicles in its SUV class and price range.

Buying a brand new car is exciting enough, let alone getting the new year's latest model. Let us help you take a closer look at the 2024 Subaru Outback trims and packages.

For the 2024 model year, Subaru will be offering the Outback range in seven trim packages kicking off with a Base model and then moving up in terms of available trim features with Premium, Onyx Edition, Wilderness, Limited, Touring, and the range-topping XT trim levels.

Base Model 

The base model starts off the 2024 Outback trims and packages choices and all models except the XT models are fitted with the standard direct-injection 2.5L SUBARU BOXER 4-cylinder engine, which delivers 182 horsepower whilst offering impressive mileage in city driving with its Auto Start-Stop Technology.  

This engine is mated to the Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which gives up to 32 MPG on the highway and a range of almost 590 miles to a tank of gasoline.The entire Outback range is fitted as standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with 8.7 inches of ground clearance, except the Wilderness edition, which offers 9.5" ground clearance.

The 2024 Outback range offers enhanced safety features which include eight standard airbags, height-adjustable head restraints, and a unique ring-shaped reinforcement frame as standard equipment to provide all-around impact protection to occupants.

Standard fitment safety features include EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, assisting by being that extra set of eyes and helping the driver to brake when necessary. Other standard innovative safety features across the range include Automatic Emergency Steering and pre-collision braking support if this system calculates sufficient space to intervene.

Base Outback models feature two stacked 7.0-inch touchscreens with integrated Apple CarPlay/Android Auto as standard.

Standard raised roof rails with integrated foldable crossbars are fitted across the range, plus built-in tie-downs are conveniently fitted to help secure your cargo.The base model has five exterior color options to choose from, and a black cloth interior is standard.

The 2024 Outback range comes standard with a competitive limited warranty covering three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty covering five years or 60,000 miles. 

Premium Model 

The next level Premium specification offers all that the Base model does but now boasts standard fitted 18-inch gloss black finish alloy wheels.

In the Premium spec interior, the infotainment system is upgraded with an 11.6-inch vertically oriented touchscreen with large touch icons and quick response times. This bigger screen features a rotary volume and tuning knob, plus some physical buttons for the climate control settings making for easy use. 

Features like built-in navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless device charging are optional at this trim level.

Onyx Edition

The higher-specced 2014 Outback Onyx Edition has an exterior that adds unique design accents, which include black-finish alloy wheels, mirrors, and rear badging. 

The Onyx level allows an upgrade in choice of engine with the turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine with 260 horsepower, 277 pound-feet of torque, and impressive 3,500 pounds of towing capacity. A further addition for the Onyx models is standard dual-function X-MODE transmission to optimize the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with convenient settings for snow/dirt and deep snow/mud.

On the interior, the Onyx Edition cabin features two-tone StarTex upholstery that's both water-repellent and hard-wearing and with green stitching accents throughout the cabin. 

An upgraded dual-zone climate control aircon system, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and additional USB ports dotted around the cabin are standard fare.

Wilderness Edition

The 2024 Outback Wilderness is fitted with additional terrain-taming upgrades, and when it comes to offroad conquering power, the 2024 Outback Wilderness is fitted as standard with the 260-horsepower direct-injection turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine delivering 277 pound-feet of torque with an impressive 3,500 pounds of towing capacity.

As with all Outback models, this model is equipped with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with upgraded dual-function X-MODE with settings for dirt/snow and deep snow/mud, allowing additional wheel slip to power the way through any adverse conditions. 

In addition, the drivetrain also features revised transmission gearing ratios with a shorter final drive ratio to enhance low-speed climbing capability up to a 40% grade.

Improved ground clearance measuring 9.5 inches is exclusive to this spec, along with a standard front skid plate allowing the Outback Wilderness to tackle rougher terrain. Both the front and rear bumpers have been designed with improved approach and departure angles to easily clear larger obstacles. 

Carrying on the rugged off-road theme, the Subaru comes with standard 17-inch matte-black-finish alloy off-road wheels as well as all-terrain Yokohama GEOLANDAR tires. 

The Wilderness Edition is exclusively finished with unique anodized copper-finish accents with the Geyser Blue exterior paint color. Another innovative touch is a unique matte black hood decal to help reduce glare.

When it comes to the interior, the Wilderness Edition offers all the creature comforts with contrast stitching and Anodized Copper-finish accents adding an extra layer of style along with the advanced StarTex® upholstery finished interior. Convenient features include an LED-lit cargo area and heated steering wheel for year-round comfort as well as 60/40-split flat-folding seat backs for handy cargo loading.

The 2024 Outback Wilderness also features the standard STARLINK Multimedia system with an 11.6-inch touchscreen available in all models besides the Base but elevates the audio experience with a Harman Kardon premium audio system with 12 speakers.

Limited Model 

At this level, buyers have nine exterior colors to choose from, and slate black leather trim is standard fitment. Further niceties include a Harman Kardon® premium audio system, 18-inch alloy wheels, Keyless Access with Push-Button Start, and a hands-free power rear gate.

Driver comfort is taken care of with a 10-way power adjustable seat with power adjustable lumbar support, and the front passenger doesn't miss out either with an 8-way power-adjustable front-passenger seat.

Touring 

Creature comforts are plenty at this level, with the Touring Edition offering Nappa leather-trimmed upholstery, a SUBARU STARLINK® 11.6-inch Multimedia Navigation system, power moonroof, heated and ventilated front seats as well as outboard rear seats as standard.

Further safety features include a DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System.

XT versions

The XT version of the Onyx, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring trim packages all feature the turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine with 260 horsepower, 277 pound-feet of torque, and an impressive 3,500 pounds of towing capacity.
