2025 Subaru Legacy

The Subaru Legacy has lived up to its name. The midsize family sedan has been turning heads and building a solid reputation since it was introduced in 1989. Over three decades later, Subaru has announced that the 2025 model year will be the last for the Legacy, leaving behind a long and respectable history for the sedan. The downside is that not only will this be the last model year for the Legacy, but that it also won't see major upgrades. The good news is that buyers still have a chance to buy one of these great sedans while they are new.
Exterior Styling
The 2025 Subaru Legacy has a smart and stylish design that will help you feel at home in any setting. It is sophisticated enough to take to work functions, yet it is not so assuming that you'll feel like it's too much for casual playdates or outdoor trips. The profile is aerodynamic without being overly "stretched" or slick. Lines and grooves are thoughtfully placed to move the eye from one section of the profile to another, while also creating a cohesive look.
Black accents are thoughtfully placed to accent certain elements, like the windows and side mirrors, while body colored accents are chosen for elements like the door handles or bumpers to maintain the integrity of the profile. The design also plays with lines to create interesting visual appeal, such as in the headlights, grille, and air intake vents.
The exterior comes in six available colors, giving you the option to show off your personal style and to create a look you'll love.
Interior Styling and Capacity
The inside of the 2025 Subaru Legacy is just as handsome on the inside. The monochrome interior is sleek and stylish, with thoughtfully placed details to create interesting visual appeal. For example, there is top stitching on the upholstery and the interior panels, as well as select chrome accents. The panels are also broken up so that they aren't bland, featuring intersecting lines and sections that come together in interesting ways.
There is comfortable seating for up to five passengers in the 2025 Legacy, and all passengers will find they have plenty of room. There is 105.5 cubic feet of passenger space, giving everyone the room they need to breathe. In addition, there is 15.1 cubic feet of cargo space, providing plenty of room to carry luggage and weekend gear when needed.
Three colors are available for the interior, depending on which trim level you choose. All the colors are designed to look great with whatever exterior color you have chosen.

Power and Performance
You get far more power from the 2025 Subaru Legacy than you might expect from a sedan. The 2025 Legacy comes standard with a 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine (the Subaru BOXER engine) that puts out 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an automatic continuously variable transmission, giving you smooth and powerful performance.
For those who want a little more oomph in their sedan, the Legacy Sport and Touring XT models come with a 2.4-liter turbocharged DOHC engine that puts out 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. This engine is also paired with a continuously variable transmission.
All-wheel drive is standard on all trim levels of the 2025 Legacy, as it is on many Subaru models. Other performance features include vehicle dynamics control, a traction control system, active torque vectoring, and four-wheel independent suspension.
The 2025 Subaru Legacy gets great fuel efficiency, helping to keep it an economical choice for families. The standard powertrain gets an estimated 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, or 30 mpg combined. If you opt for the turbocharged models, you'll lose a few miles per gallon, but not many. The turbocharged powertrain gets an estimated 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, or 27 mpg combined. The great fuel economy and an 18.5-gallon fuel tank will have you going a long time between fill-ups.
Infotainment and Technology Features
The base model 2025 Subaru Legacy is stocked with popular infotainment and technology features, ensuring a great ride for everyone.
The infotainment is displayed on dual, 7.0-inch screens, which are easy to use. For those who prefer the singular display, it is available on the Premium trim level. The infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless integration of smartphone devices to take hands-free calls, stream your favorite music, get your preferred navigation, and much more. Sound pumps out on a four-speaker audio system, and illuminated USB-A chargers are available for easy device charging.
Other technology and convenience features included on the base Legacy model include auto up and down front windows with anti-pinch protection, advanced adaptive cruise control, transmission paddle shifters, and automatic climate control.
Storage options abound. There are eight cup and bottle holders throughout, as well as an overhead console, center console, and underfloor storage console in the trunk.
Most drivers will find that they have what they need on the base model 2025 Legacy, but additional features are available on the higher trim levels and options packages, for those who want something specific or just want a little more.

Safety Features
The 2025 Subaru Legacy has been built as a safe, family-friendly vehicle. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it a five-star overall safety rating. The NHTSA also awarded the sedan five stars in almost all of its individual crash tests. The Legacy is built with a ring-shaped reinforcement frame to protect the center of the vehicle in case of an accident.
The base model Legacy comes with several driver aids that improve safety by helping to avoid collision and helping to mitigate the damages in the event of one. All models come with the Subaru EyeSight suite of features, which includes lane centering, lane departure and sway warning, lane keep assistance, automatic emergency steering, and pre-collision braking.
Additional safety and driver assistance features include high beam assistance, LED daytime running lights, a brake override system, a comprehensive airbag system, rear child safety locks, height-adjustable seat belts and head restraints, and a backup camera.
The Legacy also comes with features to protect the car itself, including keyless entry and an anti-theft system.
Trim Levels
There are five trim levels for the 2025 Subaru Legacy, giving buyers plenty of options to get all the features they want. The base model comes with all the features listed above. Here's an overview of what you gain on each of the other four trim levels:
Premium
The Subaru Legacy Premium starts to add luxury features as you move up the trim ladder. The Premium gives you a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob, as well as heated front seats and a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat. The Premium is also the first trim level to add the larger, 11.6-inch, vertically aligned infotainment touchscreen. The infotainment system also gets an upgrade with satellite radio and 4G LTE wifi capability.
Limited
The Subaru Legacy Limited continues adding luxury features. The interior is upgraded with leather seating and a power-adjustable passenger's seat to match the driver's seat. Backseat passengers also get heated seats on this trim level. Other interior upgrades include keyless start and a premium Harman Kardon audio system. Exterior upgrades include 18-inch machine-finish alloy wheels and a panoramic moonroof. The already expansive safety suite also gets upgraded with blind spot detection.
Sport
The Subaru Legacy Sport is the first of the trim levels to get the upgraded, turbocharged engine. In addition to the performance upgrade, the Sport gets a few other convenience upgrades, including keyless start, the premium 12-speaker audio system, and two-tone upholstery with contrast stitching. Outside, the Sport gets 18-inch alloy wheels with a gray finish and a trunk spoiler.
Touring XT
The Touring XT is the top trim level for the 2025 Subaru Legacy. It includes the same turbocharged engine as the Sport, but it offers several upgrades on the interior. The upholstery is trimmed with Nappa leather, and the front seats are both heated and ventilated. The exterior gets satin chrome-finished power folding side mirrors for a touch of class. The safety suite also gets a major upgrade with a 180-degree front view monitor that gives you a better look at the path before you.
