2022 Subaru Forester Trims and Packages

The 2022 Subaru Forester gets an almost complete refresh entering the fifth stage of its life cycle. It has a new grille, redesigned front fascia, new headlights, fog light covers, convenience features and safety technology. Plus, its upgraded ladder-type roof rail design adds a static load limit of 800 pounds and adds new tie-down locations in the rails. It even has two more utility hooks inside on the roof in the rear cargo area. A brighter interior LED dome light featuring off-delay is now standard equipment.

2022 Subaru Forester Exterior

The 2022 Subaru Forester's exterior has a bold looking hexagonal radiator grille, new inserts and strongly defined angles. The headlights have a partly vertical orientation, with a U-shaped main light and C-shaped daytime running lights and LED fog lights that create a sophisticated, aggressive front fascia. It has black bumpers, an aerodynamic hood, angular shoulders, swept-back windshield, body-color door handles, black side mirrors and roof rails, body panel penetrating the taillights, dual exhaust, 8.7-inch ground clearance and 17 or 18-inch alloy rims.

2022 Subaru Forester Interior

The interior has leather and soft-touch plastic and silver accents on most surfaces. There's a 6.5-inch infotainment system screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, Bluetooth, hands-free phone, Travellink navigation, 8-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, steering wheel controls, an instrument cluster with two analog dials and a driver's display setup. The Forester seats 5 on sturdy, comfortable cloth or leather upholstered seats. It has a power-adjustable driver's seat, 31.2 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the rear seats upright and 76.1 cubic feet with them folded down.

Engine, Transmission And Driveline

The all-wheel-drive 2022 Subaru Forester is powered by a 2.5-liter, 182 horsepower flat four-cylinder engine that produces 176 pound-feet of torque working with a continuously variable automatic transmission. It can tow as much as 1,500 pounds and has a payload capacity of 1442 pounds. The Japanese automaker may also offer an optional 2.4 liter turbo-four engine on the 2022 Subaru Forester and may introduce a hybrid powertrain.

2022 Subaru Forester Safety

The 2022 Subaru Forester driver assistance and active safety features got good marks from the NHTSA and was named a IIHS Top Safety Pick. One of its new safety features is the DriverFocus Distraction system that detects if the driver is drowsy and provides assistance. Subaru has updated its EyeSight Driver assist system and will include a new 360-degree camera. Other safety features include a rear vision camera, rear cross traffic alert, Blind spot detection and reverse automatic braking.

The 2022 Subaru Forester comes in 6 different trim levels. They are the Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Wilderness And Touring.

Base Trim

This trim has keyless entry, 6.5-inch touchscreen, a multi-function display, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, hands-free connectivity, audio streaming, SiriusXM and a CD player. It also has dual front USB ports in the center console and a color LCD combination meter.


The Premium trim has enhanced roof rails and additional tie-down points which improves its versatility. It also adds push-button start, LED steering responsive headlights, leather wrapped steering wheel, heated seats and mirrors, fog lights and windshield wiper de-icer. It also has a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with power lumbar support, power panoramic sunroof, roof rails, dark tint privacy glass and Black machine finished 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.


This trim adds orange accents, black rear roof spoiler and black-finish 18-inch wheels and dark gray material with orange accents and stitching. The Sport trim also has dual-function X-Mode that gives it increased off-road driving capability and the ability to handle extreme weather conditions. It has blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert and lane change assist.


The Limited trim has leather seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power rear tailgate that has height memory and auto close. It has voice-activated climate control and dual USB ports. There's fog lights featuring chrome accent trim, turn signals integrated into the side mirrors, chrome badges, roof rails featuring silver metallic finish mounts, silver finish on its front, side and rear valences and Black 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Plus, it has a Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission automatic transmission featuring a 7-speed manual mode.


The Wilderness has increased ground clearance, enhanced off-road capability, a revised drivetrain and trail-tested standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. With rugged, tough exterior cladding, blacked-out exterior trim that contrasts with its Anodized Copper finish accents, matte black alloy wheels and all-terrain tires, the Wilderness looks bold and powerful. It has Subaru's safe, durable Eyesight Driver Assist Technology's advanced protection and can handle any type of terrain.


The Touring trim's gesture climate control capability allows drivers to raise and lower the temperature of the vehicle's automatic climate control system using hand gestures. The Touring adds gloss black trim to the Premium trim's B- and C-pillars. Its trim has leather upholstery that's black or saddle brown, 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, 2-position memory, 8-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, plus heated rear seats. There are cargo area LED lights in the tailgate and dome lights with off-delay.
