Subaru Is Building New EyeSight AI Based

Every once in a while you hear something about cars that can't help but make you turn your head. So, when you hear that Subaru is building an all-new AI-based EyeSight technology system to make their vehicles even safer, you can't help but take notice.
But what is this system Subaru is developing, how does it differ from their current EyeSight technologies, and when can we expect to see the AI-based EyeSight technologies on vehicles in the future? We'll break it all down for you here.
What is Subaru EyeSight?
If you're talking about current Subaru EyeSight technologies, it's a Driver Assist Technology system aimed at improving driver safety. Subaru first released its EyeSight Driver Assist Technology in 2012 and since then they've installed it in over a million vehicles worldwide.
These technologies include things like a lane departure warning system, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking and so much more.
However, if you're talking about Subaru's new EyeSight AI-based technologies, they haven't hit the market yet. They plan to use multiple cameras to triangulate the position of an object and adjust from there. Subaru claims that this system will be even more accurate than lidar, which would lead to even safer vehicles.
How Much Does Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology Help?
The Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) completed a study testing how much Subaru's original EyeSight Driver Assist Technologies help, and the results are staggering.
According to the study the features reduce serious rear-end accidents that cause injury by 85%. Meanwhile, Japan's Institute for Traffic Accident Research and Data Analysis (ITARDA) shows that vehicles with this technology have an accident rate of just 0.06 percent.
With improvements coming to the already extremely beneficial technologies we can expect the rate of accidents to drop even further when the new AI-based EyeSight technologies find their way onto vehicles.
Is Subaru EyeSight About Autonomous Driving?
When people think about features like AI-based features, dual cameras for triangulation, and lidar, one of the first questions that come to mind is autonomous driving.
Currently, Subaru director of Subaru Lab, Eiji Shibata, states that safety is their top priority, not autonomous driving. While that doesn't necessarily rule out autonomous driving in the future, it doesn't seem like it's their top priority right now.
When Will Subaru Release Their New EyeSight Technology?
While Subaru released its initial EyeSight Technology back in 2012, you can't find the newer AI-based EyeSight technologies on Subarus just yet. The current timetable for the release of the newer advanced system is 2025.
If all goes according to plan you should start to see these advanced AI features hitting Subarus on the road around then.
